Upgrading Your Property with Concrete Fence Posts and Concrete Gravel Board Combinations

 

Nowadays, it is imperative for you to define the boundary of your residential property in order to create privacy, protect your garden and enhance the safety of your house.  Usually there are two scenarios either you are planning to build a new fence and are therefore looking to install new concrete fence posts, or you are replacing an existing fence.  Constructing Your Concrete Fence

You may install your concrete fence post by using a mixture of cement and basalt, or you can opt for a postfix.  The required amount when using either of these products will highly depend upon the size of hole that you have made. Rememeber that the concrete posts are very heavy and may need a little extra post concrete also so it is a good idea to enlist some help.

Concrete fence posts will need to be dug into the ground using the traditional back breaking approach of digging a hole.  It is necessary to be aware that you cannot use Metposts on this type of fence.  It is also recommended to keep the depth of the post to at least 600mm.  but if possible go down too760mm.

 

  1. The slotted concrete posts are generally installed together with the fence panel and are therefore fitted at the same time.  When using slotted posts with wooden fence panels, you don’t have to use fixings however it is highly recommended.

 

  1. Concrete fence posts can be used for Wire mesh and chainlink fencing.

 

  1. For palisade and the closeboard fencing, you will need a mortised post that has rectangular holes.

 

Things to consider when installing Concrete Gravel Boards

 

  1. When it comes to installing the concrete gravel boards. They should simply be slotted in to the concrete fence post. They don’t have to be fixed unless the ground is uneven.

 

  1. Concrete gravel boards can also be installed in longer length sections measuring up to 2.885m ( Consult building control for relevant approval ) they can however be prone to damage when installing.  Remember to handle the panels with utmost care to prevent any cracking.  In a longer section the centre of the concrete gravel boards will need to be supported by a grave board stump.  This is attached to the gravel board using a screw and a washer. The stump is also connected on the base of the rail which ensures its durability and sturdiness.

 

  1. The concrete gravel boards which are utilised alongside the slotted or mortised concrete posts are connected using push-in cleats. The metal cleat will simply be slotted in the concrete fence post through the holes that are situated at the base of the post.  After that, the gravel board will be attached in the cleat by using bolts.

 

Final Tip

 

Finally, it is also essential to conduct a thorough site plan when you are installing your new concrete fence post.  It is recommended to start the fencing installation process at the slope to the lower part of the hill.  This will guarantee that your fence post’s height will be correct.
