Why choose a wooden floor ?

The look. The feel. Yes, that’s what makes people choose hardwood flooring for their house. Regardless of whether your home is Traditional or Contemporary there is always a Wooden Floor option available on the Market. For years, people have chosen wood as the most preferred material for flooring and there are many reasons behind it.

Choosing hardwood flooring for your home – Why might it be the best option ?

I talked about the look. Hardwood Flooring can quite often give the home a rich timeless appeal. Most importantly, it is available within everybody’s budget. While some species of wood are very expensive there are others that are more affordable for the person with an eye for a deal.

Hardwood floors are reliable & easy to maintain however remember that they will mark and scratch as your hardwood floor is only as hard as the Wood it is manufactured from.  However one positive aspect of solid wood flooring is that generally you can use it in every room of your house, from the kitchen to bedroom to the hall to the bathroom.

If in time you feel that your wooden floor needs revamping you always have the option of sanding and resealing the wooden floor,

Environmentally friendly wooden floors

Wooden floors can often be an environmently friendly home building option,Check with the supplier on the environmental credentials of your wooden floor prior to makingthe purchase.

What about the cons? Let us list a few of them here.

  • There are a number of poor quality synthetic flooring options available on the market, laminate is a good product however do your research 1st as there are a number of laminate floors that are barely fit for purpose.
  • Wooden floors feel colder.
  • If you have pets, having wooden floors may not be the best option as they tend to slip and slide on them.
  • Your floor would get scratches that need refinishing from time to time.

If you have weighed the pros against the cons and decided to get a hardwood floor, let me now discuss which type would be best for your home.

Types of design of your wooden flooring

Solid & Engineered wooden flooring has always been a popular choice. There are three major types of solid & engineered flooring, namely, strip, plank & parquet.

  • In strip flooring, the width remains fixed but the thickness varies.
  • On plank flooring it is available in two thicknesses but varying width.
  • Parquet flooring on the other hand is slightly different as it doesn’t look like typical hardwoods as different geometrical patterns are put together to create the overall look of the floor.

These three types of hardwood floors are available in unfinished and pre-finished versions.

The unfinished flooring is sanded after installation while the pre-finished floors are sanded and finished in the factory.

I hope that the information I have shared on flooring helps you to choose the best floor type for your house.
