Advantages of Hardwood.
- Hardwood is more durable in outdoor timber applications.
- Hardwood has a beautiful grain structure.
- Oak Hardwood can be used to match Oak Floors.
- Hardwood can be easily Stained or lacquered.
- Oak Timber is readily available in the Uk Timber sector.
Disadvantages of Hardwood
- Hardwood Timber is generally more expensive with regard to timber prices.
- Hardwood is generally harder to work with due to its density.
- Hardwood generally isn’t as environmentally friendly.
- Quality Hardwood suppliers are harder to find.
- Limited on Lengths.
- Usually need to source hardwood from specialist Timber Merchant.
Advantages of Softwood Timber.
- Softwood ( Usually Pine ) is generally cheaper than Hardwood.
- More readily available from builders merchants ( However we still recommend using local timber supplier ).
- Huge range of lengths and widths.
- Can be cut to size easier.
- Softwood is generally easier to work with.
- Is available as Tanalised Timber ( Pressure treated to enhance longevity of timber.
Disadvantages of Softwood Timber
- Generally not as durable.
- Not as aesthetically pleasing.
